Trouble Shooting for Phone Problems
If you
don’t have dial tone, please check all phones to make
sure they are hung up properly and the cord to the jack
and phone are secure.
Electronic
equipment such as cordless phones, fax & answering machines
and computers, are sensitive to power fluctuations. These
fluctuations can be caused by the electric lines, lightning
or low battery on your equipment.
When
a cordless phone goes dead it may cause all phones on your
line to go out. Once the problem equipment is disconnected
from the phone jack and the electricity dial tone should
return.
Answering
machines have also been known to “blip” and
try to answer on the first ring but not take a message.
You will need to disconnect the machine from the electricity
and phone
jack, wait a few minutes for the equipment to reset itself
and then plug it back in.
On
occasion, customers call saying that they can make calls
but not receive calls. Sometimes the ringer or volume control
on the side of the phone has gotten bumped and turned
off. There may be a problem on the line either caused by
electronic equipment as described
above or a fault in the wiring.
If
someone has done any digging or planting, the line may have
been cut. You will need to
call the telephone company to initiate the repair.
If
you are an ADSL customer and experience static on your telephone
line the problem may
be the filter. Turn off your computer and unplug the modem.
If the static is gone the
filter probably needs to be replaced. Please call 223-4210.
After
you have tried correcting the problem and your service has
not been restored please call the telephone company office
at 223-4211. If it is after hours please leave a message.
The
telephone company if responsible for service to the protector
on the house. There is a
charge for any repairs done on customer wiring or equipment.
