Repair:
The telephone company is responsible for dial tone to the protector at the house. There is a charge to connect, repair or locate trouble at your premises. If you lose dial tone at your house, try to locate the problem. Disconnect any cordless phones, answering machines, computers or fax machines from the telephone jacks and electricity. Wait a few minutes and then try a non-electric phone. If dial tone has returned, plug your electronic equipment back in. Any defective devise will cause the line to go dead. Sometimes the electronic equipment just needs to be disconnected and reconnected to return to service. If you find a defective devise, contact the manufacturer or the store where you bought it. Should you have a problem with the premises wiring or jacks, you can fix it yourself, hire a repair person or contact the telephone company for repairs. If you or a contractor should cut the outside buried cable to your premises, there is a charge for repairing the cut.

Service for TDD Customers: Telecommunications Devices for the Deaf or TDD's are typewriter-like devices that permit hearing- or speech impaired persons to communicate via the telephone lines with other TDD users.

Michigan Relay Center:

The Michigan Relay Center enables hearing and/or speech impaired individuals to communicate freely with anyone within the United States, as well as internationally. Relay calls may be made any time of day, any day of the week, as often as you like.

To use the relay system, a person who is deaf, hard-of-hearing or speech impaired must have a device with a keyboard called a Telecommunications Device for the Deaf or TDD.

The TDD caller dials the Center at 1-800-649-3777 to reach a specially trained relay representative. The representative calls the person with whom the TDD caller wishes to communicate. The caller types the message into the TDD, which the relay representative receives and "voices" to the called party. The representative then types the called party's response back to the caller.

Hearing persons, or non-TDD users, may also use the service by calling the same statewide 800 number. The caller tells the representative the area code, telephone number, and the name of the person they're calling. As the conversation is being relayed, the non-TDD users talks as though speaking directly to the TDD user.
